Last Connector
1) Text to self I can connect to Thorin when he completely locked up the mountain to protect the treasure because me and my siblings fight over our IPad and if one of us gets it we run to the bathroom and lock it up and barricade it, it sort of helps me understand how they were feeling.

2) text to media I can connect to when Bilbo was happy to see the Eagles during the battle and was prancing around chanting their name then gets hit with a big rock. it reminds me of something that happened at a soccer game. there was a little commentary stand and a woman was chatting about the game when in the distance you can see a soccer ball coming closer and closer. then the soccer ball hits her right in the back of her head and her head hits the desk. It helps me picture and understand it happening and makes it funny.

3) text to media I can connect to bilbo when his house and belongings were being sold at the end, in the movie happy gilmore. Happy's grandma's house was being auctioned off because she couldn't pay rent and stuff, but happy could hit a golf ball 400 yards so he played competitive golf and got enough money to buy her house back, so it's connected because they were both away for so long and then people come in and buy your house and you don't get money.

p 243. “he was getting blind, he could hardly fly and the top of his head was bald”

I chose this passage because it describes how old and cripple the thrush. I also find this cool that he can fly even though he is that old.

p 260. “Get down or I will throw you down”

This shows how much he is mad at Bilbo for stealing the ARKENSTONE. He will do anything to get it back even if someone dies.

p 263. “HALT he called in a voice like thunder”

This describes how much of an impact his voice has on everybody. If I heard gandalf yell I would stop like them.

summery #3

This book is about a Hobbit named Bilbo Baggins witch has been chosen by Gandolf to help the dwarfs reclaim there treasure. So far there are close or at the mountain. When they go in there is more then just gold, more powerful, more dangerous,

Week 3 PP (Passage Picker)

Week 3

1 Pg 219

"Everyone worm has his weak spot"

I chose this passage because it help explain what else Bilbo decides to do once he goes to the lair of Smaug. I also find this passage very interesting because Bilbo rarely talks about his parents or his grandfather took.It also made think very differently of Bilbo instead of being scared to do it like before he is now willing to adventure into the lair at the cost of his own life.i find this significant to the story because it describes Bilbo's dad isn't just a normal hobbit but he had knowledge too and also it shows Bilbo was actually thinking if they were going to fight the thing they had to find its weakness.

2 Pg 249

"Black Arrow! I have saved you till last you have never failed me and always i have recovered you.i had you from my father  and he from old.If you ever came from the forges of the true king under the mountain,go now and speed well."

I Chose this passage because it describes the arrow used to kill the mighty terrifying dragon smaug.
It also describes the arrows history and how much and lucky the arrow is that it came to kill smaug.
i find it very significant because if it was just a normal wood arrow with a steel tip it would just lose the hype i found that the black arrow just created just by reading a bit of its history.

3 Pg 204
"They were alone in the perilous waste without hope of further help. They were at the end of their journey but as far as ever, it seemed, from the end of their quest.None of them had much spirit left."

I chose this passage because it tells at how close they are to completing their quest for the mountain but with little spirit left to do it with.It reminded me of the things they have done to get this far like the goblin caves and the spiders and the sneaking around smaug and the long long journey (shorter then Mordor).I find this very significant to the story because it describes what state their in to complete this they may have food and water but they are very tired.

3rd week connector

the hobbit

text to self

In the hobbit they got crammed in barrels to escape. I know how tight barrels are and when I go on car ride I get sore. So I know how how sore they must be. That helps me relate to how they feel

text to media

In the book the dwarfs sing and I watched the movie so I know the tune to it. That helps me know the book better because I understand the song better.

text to world

In the book smaug was boasting about his underside then bilbo finds about the hole. then smaug gets mad and flies to lake town. In the world when people brag then someone finds out its not true they are usually really mad. thats what made me think that smaug may destroy lake town.

text to text

In the book they talk about building a new town. In most other books when they go to build a town the do not succeed. It helps me by giving me a idea of what will happen in the next few chapters.

PP second week

PP  sorry could only think of one

"The next morning Bilbo woke up with the early sun in his eyes. He jumped up to look at the time and put his kettle on- and found he was not at home at all" :-(

I chose this passage because it describes how much Bilbo misses his house ( hobbit hole )
